“When the natural is sought through appreciation, thus displayed by means of portrayal, it loses its naturalness. For nothing is less natural than its portrayal for the sake of effect. Just as there is no such thing as a depiction of innocence that is innocent, a portrayal of ‘the real’ that is not vicarious. Anything of innocent ‘reality captured’ that is not candid, accidentally surreptitious, a glimpse fallen upon by chance or fate, pertains to ‘the vicarious’, as antipode of ‘the real’.” “…Poetry should be an innocent glimpse of the real…not contrivance.” –S.A.
